A row has flared over the best way to encourage Queensland women to opt for breast screening.
There is anger over a decision to scrap a television advertising campaign using Jana Wendt to promote breast screening.
Queensland Cancer Council spokeswoman Anne Savage says the ads were very successful.
"We do know that this particular campaign was credited with encouraging an extra 13,000 women to have potentially life saving mammograms," she said.
But Queensland's chief medical officer Jeannette Young says the current campaign of more direct marketing, targeting women aged 50-69, is better.
"This year we're tracking an increase of about 15,000 women," she said.
But the head of the consumer screening reference group, Mena Crew, disagrees.
She says the TV advertisements work and should be reinstated.
Ms Crew has asked Health Minister Paul Lucas to review the decision.
