Young Australians ignoring risks of loud sounds

A report recently, released by Australian Hearing, shows that leisure activities affect the hearing of many young Australians.

Noises affecting young people in nightclubs can range between 91 and 106 decibels, and the noise from a concert has an average of 98 decibels. This is revealed in Binge Listening: Is Exposure to leisure noise causing hearing loss in young Australians?

The report is based on a study of 1,000 people aged between 18 and 35, and showed that 15 per cent of young people go to a pub once a week.  54 per cent stay for more than three hours.

The report concludes that many young Australians are at risk of future hearing losses, and that some young people are unaware of the risks with their leisure activities.

Even though many young people know the correlation between loud sounds and hearing loss, many choose not to change their behaviors.
